For press

What we speak to, what we confirm, and how to reach us.

For press. The Neighbour’s Table is a student-run nonprofit. Chapters at Canadian high schools ask farms one question, whether they have produce they cannot sell, and hand every yes to a food bank or food rescue organization that collects it with its own vehicle.

Students never handle food, never travel to farms and never hold money. The work happens at school, at lunch, under a Teacher Advisor. Each chapter is a club of its own school, and its members hold named roles, meet weekly and record every farm they contact. Andrew Adair is the Founder of The Neighbour’s Table and speaks for the organization.

Press enquiries go to andrew.sun.adair@gmail.com. Say what you are working on, what you need and when you need it, and HQ will reply.

What we speak to. Three subjects: food waste in Canada, food insecurity in Canada, and how a chapter of The Neighbour’s Table works.

On food waste we speak to the scale of the problem and where it sits in the chain: 8.8 million tonnes of edible food is wasted in Canada every year (Second Harvest and Value Chain Management International, 2024). On hunger we speak to demand: 24.0% of people in Canada lived in a food-insecure household in 2025, about 9.8 million people (PROOF, University of Toronto, 2026).

We speak to the UN Sustainable Development Goals as well, and to Target 12.3 in particular, which commits the world to halving food waste at retail and consumer levels and reducing losses along production and supply chains by 2030.

Statistics first, organization second.

What we confirm. Anything in this paragraph can be quoted directly: we are a student-run nonprofit, and each chapter is a club of its own Canadian high school, run by its students under a Teacher Advisor.

We confirm the description of the organization, who speaks for it, how a chapter works, the roles members hold, and how a chapter is approved. We confirm every statistic on this site along with the published source behind it and the date on that source. Where a source updates its figures, we update ours and say so.

We publish no figures about our own activity yet. They will be published only when we can show the record behind them. Every number on this site is sourced to a named publication.

Every figure carries a source.

How to reach us. One address, andrew.sun.adair@gmail.com, reaches HQ. Mark a press enquiry as press in the subject line and it moves to the front.

Tell us your outlet, your deadline and the format you want, whether that is a written statement, a short interview or a set of sourced figures. Interviews are given by Andrew Adair, Founder. We answer student press on the same terms as everyone else.

The name is The Neighbour’s Table, singular possessive, with a u in Neighbour, and The is part of it. Never abbreviate it. The description on this page can be used as it stands.

One address, answered by HQ.

The research

Every figure we quote comes from a published source, and the resources section lists them with links so a journalist can go straight to the original rather than to us.
