Harvested field rows leading to distant farm buildings

The farms nobody asks

A chapter asks every farm on its list the same question. If there is no reply, the Follow-up Clerk sends one follow-up about two weeks later, to the same business address. It catches emails that were missed in a busy week. Then the record is closed.

What a weekly session actually looks like

Forty-five minutes, once a week, at lunch, in a room at the school. The List Builder brings new farm records, pairs draft each email from the template, the Outreach Editor reads every one before it is sent, and the Records and Hours Clerk logs every outcome. Everyone leaves knowing what they are doing next week.

From field to food bank

When a farm says yes, the chapter gives it the published contact of an organization that collects, free, with its own vehicle, and records the outcome in the same session. The farm arranges the pickup with that organization directly.

Why students run this

A chapter is a club of its own school, run by its students under a Teacher Advisor, meeting once a week at lunch. Students do the work, and the Teacher Advisor is copied on every message that leaves the chapter.

One season, one region

One farm record carries the published business contact, the source it came from, the date it was checked, the contact dates, the outcome and any organization introduced. Records are kept for at least three years, because a list that can show its own working is a list the students who come after can pick up.

Where to start

Why we exist

We ask Canadian farms whether they have produce they cannot sell, and connect every yes with a food bank that collects it.

What we do

The Neighbour’s Table is a student-run nonprofit. Chapters at Canadian high schools ask farms one question, whether they have produce they cannot sell, and hand every yes to a food bank or food rescue organization that collects it with its own vehicle.

How you can help

Students build the farm list, ask each farm one question, and hand every yes to a food bank that collects it.
