Reports

What we publish, and the research the organization works from.

Aerial patchwork of green and gold farm fields

Reports are how an organization shows its working. Reports will appear here once a full season of chapter records exists.

Every chapter keeps a record of the farms on its list, every contact and the outcome of each one. That record is the raw material for a report, and it is kept as the season runs rather than assembled afterwards. When a report is published it will appear on this page with its date, and every figure in it will come from those records, with its denominator.

Alongside future reports, this section points to the published research the organization relies on: Second Harvest and Value Chain Management International on food waste, PROOF at the University of Toronto on food insecurity, and Statistics Canada on Canadian agriculture.

Everything is written down.

Our resources

The resources section gathers everything we publish and everything we cite in one place, so a journalist, a student or a grower can check a number against its source.

The research

Every statistic used anywhere on this site comes from a named published study with a link to it. The full set sits on one page, grouped by waste, climate, hunger and agriculture.

Working together

If you want to use our material, or work with the organization on something that needs a document from us, the working with us page explains how.
