Terms and conditions of use

The terms that govern your use of this website and its content.

These terms apply to theneighbourstable.ca, the website of The Neighbour’s Table. Using the site means you accept them. They take effect on the date they are published on this site.

The Neighbour’s Table is a student-run nonprofit. Chapters at Canadian high schools ask farms one question, whether they have produce they cannot sell, and hand every yes to a food bank or food rescue organization that collects it with its own vehicle. We also advocate for a food system that stops treating edible food as waste. The site is written and maintained by members of the organization. If you want to reach us about anything on it, write to andrew.sun.adair@gmail.com and say which page you mean.

These terms cover the pages published at theneighbourstable.ca. They do not cover any other website, and they do not change from page to page. Read them with the privacy and cookies policy, which explains what the site collects.

These terms apply throughout.

You are welcome to read, quote and share what is published here. These terms set out the few things you may not do with it.

Do not use this site for anything unlawful. Do not attempt to gain access to any part of it that is not published, interfere with how it runs, introduce malicious code, or collect personal information from it by automated means. Do not present the site or its content in a way that suggests The Neighbour’s Table endorses you, your organization or your product. Do not impersonate the organization or anyone in it in correspondence.

If you write to us through the address published on this site, write about the work. We may decline correspondence that is abusive, or that repeats a matter already answered. Serious misuse of the site will be reported.

Read it. Quote it.

Everything on this site is written to be accurate on the day it is published. Statistics are quoted from named sources.

The figures on this site come from published research and government data: Food Banks Canada on food bank visits, PROOF at the University of Toronto on household food insecurity, Second Harvest and Value Chain Management International on food waste, Environment and Climate Change Canada on produce left unharvested, and Statistics Canada on farms. Each page names the source beside the figure. Sources update their numbers, and we update ours when they do.

Pages describing how the organization works describe it as it stands on the date of publication. Details change as chapters are approved. Nothing on this site is professional, legal or nutritional advice, and nothing on it is an offer.

Every figure names its source.

The name The Neighbour’s Table, the mark that goes with it, and the writing on this site belong to the organization. The research we quote belongs to its authors.

You may quote from this site, link to any page on it, and reproduce short passages for reporting or study, provided you name The Neighbour’s Table as the source and do not change the sense of what you quote. Wholesale copying of pages, republishing the site under another name, or using the name or the mark without written permission is not permitted. Requests take one email: write to andrew.sun.adair@gmail.com and say what you want to use.

Photographs on this site are licensed from Unsplash and show farms, produce, fields and markets. None of them shows a member of The Neighbour’s Table, a farm we have contacted or a person who uses a food bank. Do not extract them for separate use. Where a page quotes a report, the copyright in that report stays with the body that published it.

The name is ours.

This site links out to research, government pages and the United Nations. Those pages are written by other people and we do not control them.

A link from this site is a pointer to a source, not an endorsement of the organization that publishes it. We check links when a page is written and we correct them when we find them broken. We are not responsible for what another site publishes, changes or removes, or for what happens once you leave theneighbourstable.ca. Read the terms and the privacy policy of any site you go on to.

The site is provided as it is. We do not warrant that every page will be available at every moment, that it will be free of error, or that it will suit a particular purpose you have in mind.

Links are not endorsements.

The last part of these terms covers liability, the law that governs them, how they change, and how to reach a person about any of it.

To the extent the law allows, The Neighbour’s Table is not liable for loss or damage arising from use of this site or reliance on anything published on it, including indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability for anything that may not be limited by law. These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, and the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction.

We may revise these terms. The version on this page is the one in force, and it takes effect on the date it is published here. If you have a question about these terms, write to andrew.sun.adair@gmail.com.

What is useful to us is people, schools and farms: a student who will hold a role, a school that will host a chapter, and a grower with produce that will not reach a buyer.
