From field to food bank

Every step from the field to the food bank.

Barn house beside plowed field at golden hour

This is what happens between a farm with produce it cannot sell and the food bank that collects it.

It starts with a name on a list. A List Builder finds the farm in published sources and records its business contact and where it was found. Pairs draft each email from the template, and the Outreach Editor reads every one before it is sent. The question is always the same: Do you have surplus or grade-out produce this season that you cannot sell? A Follow-up Clerk sends the single follow-up on day 14 and closes the record.

When a farm says yes, the chapter gives it the published contact of an organization that collects, free, with its own vehicle, such as Second Harvest’s From the Farm program. The farm arranges the pickup with it directly. A local food bank is named to a farm only after it has confirmed in writing that it can collect from that area. The Records and Hours Clerk records the farm, the contact and the outcome.
